Summer is unofficially here! And as you get ready to head outdoors, make travel plans and live your best summer life, you may be wanting to take your pet on the go too! However, traveling with your pet requires some upfront planning to make your trip as safe and fun for your fur baby as possible. With some of these tips and tricks below, you can ensure your next pet vacay is smooth sailing.

1. Prep Your Pet: taking the animals on an adventure, especially if they haven’t traveled before, requires some work to ensure they feel comfortable and safe. Going for a road trip? Take fido around with you on shorter drives first to make sure they have a feel of riding shotgun. For longer trips that require a plane ride and some crating, making sure your pet is comfortable being enclosed is imperative to a smooth, no hassle trip

2. Check Up Time!: Visiting the vet before going on a trip to make sure your pets shots and health are all up to par will give you the peace of mind that this trip will be a healthy one. You can also use this time to gather a health certificate and any other docs needed if you’re traveling internationally. 

3. Pack a Pet Travel Kit: Snacks? Leash? Water Bowl? Check, check and check. Write out a list and gather together a kit so you don’t leave any important items at home. Bringing along the comforts of home will help make the travel to a new destination fun and cozy for your pet.
