Foster Pet at a Time

After a boom in fostering and adoption during the pandemic, shelters are filling back up with animals looking for a new home. And while you may not be ready to commit to taking in a new family member permanently, fostering a pet is the perfect way to understand whether or not you’re ready to take the leap. Also the longer days and warmer weather are an added bonus to help make your time with your foster pet the best it can be! Check out our detailed guide below on fostering so you’re prepared to jump right in!

What is Fostering?

Fostering is taking a homeless pet into your home for a set amount of time until the pet is ready for adoption. While fostering you are responsible for its wellbeing, including medical needs, housetraining and general socializing as you would be with a pet that is your own. Since you are fostering the pet temporarily, there is typically no cost associated with fostering.

What are the benefits of fostering?

Fostering a pet provides a host of benefits including helping keep shelters clear, training pets in a home environment to help increase their chances of adoption and giving pets an increased quality of living. Though only temporary, fostering is critical in keeping the population of unhoused pets down and ultimately helps solve several issues.
